As Capcom prepares to release Monster Hunter World for PS4 and Xbox One, the PC version of the highly anticipated action adventure title is planned for release in Autumn 2018. To some, this is kind of disappointing since it means a longer wait but for others, that means a better quality product owing to more development time.
Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto is pretty much in the latter camp. Speaking to GamesRadar (via PC Gamer), Tsujimoto said the team wanted to devote its full attention to the PC version to ensure its quality.
“For the main Monster Hunter game, this is our first PC title and it’s something we want to make sure we get right. So rather than have it taking up resources during the console development and not it not being able to have our full attention on it. We want to get console out the door and then we’re going to take some extra time and try and get the PC version as good as possible.”
One area where additional work was required was the matchmaking. Instead of going through PSN or Xbox Live, the developer would have to develop its own matchmaking. Still, Tsujimoto hopes that PC players can be patient for a properly optimized game.
“There’s extra work you need for PC as well. On console you use first-party matchmaking, you just kind of plug into it, whether it’s PSN or Xbox Live, but on PC we’re going to have to work more to get our own matchmaking working. So, hopefully, PC users won’t mind waiting a little bit longer for us to bring you a really great optimized PC experience.”
Monster Hunter World releases on January 26th for Xbox One and PS4. Recently, Capcom confirmed that though there is a robust DLC plan for the game with free content like new quests and monsters, it will not pursue a “Games as a service” model.
