Mortal Kombat 11 Developers Looking To Add Cross-Play To The Game

That said, they aren’t committing to anything specific at this point in time.

With cross platform play becoming more and more common among multiplatform games these days, there are some who might expect every major upcoming game to support the feature. For at least one such AAA game that is due to release soon, it seems like the developers are looking into supporting cross-platform play.

That AAA game is Mortal Kombat 11. After speaking to NetherRealm Studios’ Game Designer Derek Kirtzic, Wccftech reports that the developer conceded that this is a feature they are actually looking at including, and something they want. That said, they refused to commit to anything specific or concrete for now, which makes sense, since it is likely they don’t have the deals and arrangements in place, which would let them implement the technology.

However, it should hopefully not be that difficult for them to do it from a technical perspective—given Mortal Kombat 11 runs on Epic’s Unreal Engine, which is getting big push for natively supporting the feature, it should hopefully only be a matter of getting the all clear from all platform holders.

Mortal Kombat 11 launches April 23 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. There will be a closed beta for the game before then, but it will be available only for PS4 and Xbox One.
