That Mortal Kombat 11 would be massive success for NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment was never in doubt, and all the data we’ve seen since its release has suggested the same. In the US, for instance, it was the highest selling game for the month of April, while also becoming the year’s second highest selling game so far.
Another metric that shows just how well the game has been selling is digital sales. As per a new report by SuperData, Mortal Kombat 11 has sold 1.8 million units in digital sales across PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. For comparison’s sake, back in 2015, at launch, Mortal Kombat X had sold 400,000 digital units (though the gulf seems more understandable given the growth of the digital market on consoles). This, incidentally, also makes Mortal Kombat 11 the biggest digital launch in the franchise’s history.
Developers NetherRealm Studios claim to have “years of new content” planned for the fighter, so if they manage to keep the game alive and active, it might end up being a consistent performer with long legs.
Mortal Kombat 11 is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
