NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat 11 may have come under fire for the Towers of Time and overall progression system, but the game itself is a huge success. According to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad at the 2019 GamesBeat Summit (via VentureBeat), the fighting game marked the biggest launch in the publisher’s history. Haddad said, “I couldn’t be more proud of that team and what they’ve done and the innovations they’ve brought to [Mortal Kombat].”

Sales figures weren’t provided, but Haddad did mention that the title would receive tons of support. The development team has “years of new content” planned, which could mean yearly passes containing new fighters. The current Kombat Pass offers six DLC characters, along with seven exclusive character skins and seven new sets of gear.

Of course, it wouldn’t be strange for the fighting game to also add new intros, outros, Fatalities, Augments, and so on as well. Right now, the developer is busy fixing progression issues, with the next patch set to improve rewards. Look for that patch to go live this week, or early next week.
