In a new press release, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that Mortal Kombat 11 has sold over 12 million units worldwide. Released in April 2019, it was last reported to have sold over 8 million copies as of October 2020. Thus far, total sales for the franchise has crossed 73 million.
Mortal Kombat Mobile has also been pretty well for the company with over 138 million downloads thus far. Series co-creator Ed Boon said that, “When Mortal Kombat launched nearly 30 years ago, I never dreamed it would grow into the franchise it is today with more than 73 million games sold. We have some of the most passionate fans in the world and we appreciate the support they have shown us over the years.”
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate was the last major content update for the title, bringing support for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 along with Kombat Pack 2. The latter added Mileena, Rambo and Rain as new characters. NetherRealm has since ended support and moved on to its next project. No indication has been given as to what it could be but Boon noted that the developer has “other stuff in the oven.” Stay tuned in the coming months for any updates.
