Need for Speed’s Autolog Given More “Human Voice”, New Snapshot System Revealed

Ghost Games' Marcus Nilsson talks about making "always online" functionality more "reactive" to players.

Ghost Games will be taking its new Need for Speed into the always online realm when it releases this November and it will look to avoid the pitfalls associated with the same by making it react to the player accordingly.

Executive producer Marcus Nilsson discussed as much with OXM and discussed how Autolog – the social media platform for Need for Speed – would be used as part of the process. “We’ve been pretty big with Autolog throughout the years and, as we know, it’s a really powerful feature. This time around we’re going to give it more of a human voice. It will treat your friend’s play as if it is part of the narrative experience.”

There will be other new features added thanks to the always online system, including a new snapshot system. “We also have a new snapshot system as well. Which is taking pictures of a lot of different moments – [they go] out to the Need for Speed network where people can ‘like’ them, and those likes are being pushed back into the game as currency. So you get progression from sharing your photos. The Xbox One has really good built-in systems to make videos and stream them, which we are also going to use.”

Need for Speed is out on Xbox One, PC and PS4 on November 3rd. Tell us what you think of the always online requirements in the comments.
