New Xbox Development Kit Rated for Use in South Korea – Rumour

Development kits of new Xbox hardware might be on the horizon, if a recent Korean certification is anything to go by.

Microsoft seems to be getting ready for a new hardware release. As spotted by X (formerly Twitter) account Xbox News for Koreans (via GamesHorizon), a new Xbox development kit has seemingly been certified by South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency. The certification essentially allows the hardware to be used in the country.

Going by the official website for the National Radio Research Agency, it would seem that the certification happened just yesterday, being dated March 18, 2024. The listing is for an “XDK Console” by Microsoft. XDK in this case would stand for Xbox Development Kit—the hardware used by development studios to develop games.

Sadly, no further details about the devkit are available, and considering the typical R&D cycle for gaming consoles, it’s possible that we’re looking at a mid-gen upgrade for the Xbox Series X/S hardware rather than an entirely new console.

The company did say earlier this year that work on the next-gen Xbox was underway, but we’re also supposed to get new hardware later this year.
