Next-Gen PSVR is Reportedly Launching in Holiday 2022

Sony's new PlayStation virtual reality headset will allegedly use Samsung OLED panels, and is currently targeting a late 2022 release.

While the PS5 does support the PSVR, it currently cannot run VR games natively, only through backward compatibility. With a new PSVR headset in the works, however, that won’t be true for long. A new headset was confirmed by Sony earlier this year, followed by images and details on its new controllers being released. Besides that, however, there isn’t much that’s currently known about the next-gen PSVR- for instance, when is it going to launch?

While Sony hasn’t officially given a launch date (or even a launch window) for it, a new report by Bloomberg claims that anonymous sources with knowledge of the project, the next-gen PSVR headset is currently targeting a 2022 lunch. The report also states that PSVR 2 will use Samsung OLED displays in its goggles.

Another report earlier this year suggested that the new PSVR will offer a resolution of 4000×2040 pixels, 2000×2040 pixels per eye, for a total of roughly 8.16 million, in addition to gaze tracking for foveated rendering, inside-out tracking, and more. You can read the full report through here.
