With all the hype and hoopla surrounding next generation engines like Unreal Engine 4, Frostbite 3 and REDengine 3, one simply has to ask: What’s next for the future of CryEngine? If you’ll recall, CryEngine is the property of Crytek, which has used the technology to create some truly stunning – and technologically demanding – game worlds in games like Crysis and Crysis 3.
The developer has recently debuted a new video demoing the next iteration of CryEngine – which can be seen in Ryse: Son of Rome – and will have many new features and be accessible to all next generation consoles. This includes the PS4 and Xbox One along with the Wii U and PC. It’s a significantly surprising development to see it support the Wii U, especially since engines like Frostbite 3 can’t run on Nintendo’s console. Maybe it’s a more scaled down version?
Regardless, Ryse: Son of Rome looks impressive enough at this point. Stay tuned for more.
