NieR was a pretty niche franchise until not too long ago, but since the launch of PlatinumGames’ NieR: Automata in 2017, the series has seen a great amount of mainstream popularity. That, of course, has also been reflected in its sales, and the action RPG has now crossed another major sales milestone.
Taking to Twitter via the official NieR account, Square Enix recently announced on the occasion of the game’s fourth anniversary that it has now crossed 5.5 million units in global shipments and digital sales. It stood at 5 million units just as of the end of December, which means the game’s still selling at a pretty good pace, even four years on from launch, which is great to see.
Meanwhile, there’s plenty of other NieR content to keep series fans busy. The mobile game NieR Re[in]carnation – which is currently only available in Japan – has been downloaded over 3 million times, while NieR Replicant launches this April for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
