One of the most anticipated games of next year is Square Enix and Platinum Games’ NieR Automata, the sequel to the cult hit that originally launched on PS3 and Xbox 360. NieR Automata is, sadly, so far exclusive to PC and PS4, meaning a whole lot of Xbox players are left in the lurch- however, it doesn’t necessarily have to stay that way.
Speaking to GameRant in an interview, NieR Automata producer Yosuke Saito admitted that the team is not averse to launching the game on Xbox One- the possibility is openly being considered, as a matter of fact, though whether or not the game comes to Microsoft’s system will depend on how well it does on the PS4 and PC at launch.
Which, I suppose, is reasonably fair- when you are making a sequel to a niche, cult hit game to begin with, you probably want to hit the biggest audiences first, on platforms with a proven track record of supporting Japanese games. I imagine that once the game has made enough money to recoup its budget, Square would greenlight an Xbox port. NieR Automata launches on PC and PS4 in February 2017.
