Yoko Taro is known for making cult classic games, but not ones that sell. Platinum is known for making cult classic games, but not ones that sell. So what happens when you get a game made by Platinum and Yoko Taro, both? Apparently, you get a game that sells beyond expectations.
We already knew that the superlative NieR Automata has sold over million units worldwide. And speaking to their investors, Square Enix confirmed that the performance of the game had beaten their own expectations for it.
This is obviously good news, as it means the franchise is now on firmer standing commercially. Square Enix also confirmed that the success of this game is making them reconsider their development strategy, where they look at developing games in their big franchises in house, but outsource their smaller and mid tier games to external developers.
It worked well for NieR, so why not? The game is available on PS4 and PC- if you haven’t had the chance to play it yet, I hugely recommend it. It’s a great title.
