Nintendo Switch 2 Sells Over 2 Million Units in US, Tops Hardware Sales in July

Not only is Nintendo's newest console the best-selling in the region year-to-date, but its sales pace is far ahead of the original Switch.

With almost six million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles sold since launch, it’s perhaps unsurprising to hear that it has topped video game hardware sales in the US for July. Circana senior director and analyst Mat Piscatella revealed that the console sold over two million units in the region as of July 2025 and is currently 75 percent ahead of the Switch 1’s sales pace.

Year-to-date, the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently the best-selling console in the United States, with the PS5 ranking second. Console sales hinged on it throughout the month, with every other platform seeing drops. PS5 dollar sales were down 47 percent year-over-year, while the Switch dropped by 52 percent. Xbox Series X/S suffered the most, with spending falling by 69 percent compared to the same period last year.

Whether the Switch 2’s tail will be as extensive as the original remains to be seen, but it’s certainly looking strong, especially off the back of the critically acclaimed Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. A new Nintendo Direct is allegedly scheduled for mid-September and could reveal a release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
