Nintendo Switch Online Crosses 36 Million Subscribers

Nintendo announces that its online subscription service for the Switch has now exceeded 36 million subscribers worldwide.

Nintendo Switch Online is far from the best gaming subscription out there – certainly when compared to the likes of PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, it falls woefully short of standards – though since it launched, it has seen consistent success and growth, and it seems like that hasn’t changed over the last few months.

In its recent quarterly fiscal report (page 14), Nintendo revealed that Nintendo Switch Online has exceeded 36 million subscribers worldwide as of September 30, 2022 (up from 32 million roughly a year ago). Of course, this counts subscribers for both, the base service, as well as the costlier tier, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which also includes libraries of N64 and Sega Genesis titles and free access to expansions for first party Nintendo titles.

Nintendo recently also announced that it is establishing a new joint venture firm called Nintendo Systems in partnership with DeNA. The new firm will look to “strengthen the digitalization of Nintendo’s business” by researching, developing, and creating new “value-added services to further reinforce Nintendo’s relationship with consumers”. Read more on that through here.

Nintendo has also revealed that the Switch has sold in excess of 114 million units worldwide.
