Nintendo has been working closely with mobile gaming company DeNA since 2015, and the two are taking their partnership to the next level. It’s been announced that Nintendo is establishing a new joint venture firm in partnership with DeNA.
The company’s objective will be to “strengthen the digitalization of Nintendo’s business”. Its operations will be focusing on researching, developing, and creating new “value-added services to further reinforce Nintendo’s relationship with consumers”. The company will be formally established on April 3, 2023.
The joint venture firm’s official name will be Nintendo Systems, and it will serve as a subsidiary of Nintendo proper, with the latter contributing 80% of its 5 billion yen capital. Some Nintendo employees and officers will also take on roles as directors in Nintendo Systems.
Since Nintendo and DeNA started working together in 2015, they have co-developed multiple services centered around Nintendo Accounts. Meanwhile, DeNA has also worked on a number of mobile titles for Nintendo, including the likes of Miitomo, Super Mario Run, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Mario Kart Tour, and more.
Nintendo has also announced updated sales figures for the Nintendo Switch, new releases like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Splatoon 3, other recent titles like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and the ten best-selling first party Switch titles.
