Nintendo Switch Online Surpasses 32 Million Members

Nintendo also pledges to keep increasing the value of both existing variants of its online subscription service.

Nintendo Switch Online has its fair share of critics, and a lot of those criticisms are not without merit. Even so, it seems like Nintendo’s online subscription service is doing well for itself. In its recent corporate management policy briefing, Nintendo revealed (page 40) that Nintendo Switch Online has now surpassed 32 million members. This includes subscribers for both Nintendo Switch Online and the recently released Expansion Pack, as well as those who’re subscribed through a Family Membership plan.

Nintendo Switch Online offers a selection of NES and SNES games, the ability to play games online, as well as various free games exclusive to the service, such as Tetris 99, Pac-Man 99, and Super Mario Bros. 35. The recently released Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is an additional paid membership that adds a selection of N64 and Sega Genesis games to that catalog, as well as free access to Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ new expansion, Happy Home Paradise.

Nintendo also states that it’s going to keep increasing the value of both variants of its online service to attract more users. “Going forward, we will continue to improve and expand both Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, striving to provide services that satisfy customers,” Nintendo writes.

Recent datamining leaks have pointed to the possibility of several more N64 and Sega Genesis games being added to the service in the coming months, while several rumours have also claimed that Game Boy and Game Boy Color games will be added to the service’s catalog as well. Whether any future expansions of games will be offered for free to subscribers like the Animal Crossing DLC remains to be seen.

During its recent quarterly fiscal briefing, Nintendo also revealed updated sales figure for the Nintendo Switch, its ten best-selling first party games, and various other recent first party releases. Read more on that through the links.
