Octopath Traveler 0 Announced, Launches on December 4

Octopath Traveler 0 will feature the same HD-2D art style and combat as its predecessors, along with new settlement-building mechanics.

Square Enix, during the recent Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, announced a new game in the Octopath Traveler franchise. Dubbed Octopath Traveler 0, the game was unveiled with a trailer, which you can check out below. As implied by the name, it’s a prequel taking place before the events of the previous titles.

The trailer kicks things off with a quick rundown of the setting’s creation myth, before showing off some of the gameplay as well as the HD-2D art style that the franchise has used since the first game. We’re also given a glimpse at the character creator, allowing players plenty of freedom to create their protagonist as they see fit.

When it comes to the story, we don’t really get the whole picture of what Octopath Traveler 0 will be about. Rather, we’re shown a series of vignettes showcasing “A Town Set Aflame” and “A Journey of Restoration”. As for gameplay, Octopath Traveler 0 will feature the franchise’s traditional turn-based combat system, as well as a new system to help build and maintain villages.

Octopath Traveler 0 is slated for release on December 4, and will be coming to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, and PC.
