Ori and the Will of the Wisps’ Story “Tackles a Much Bigger Theme” Than the First Game

Moon Studios co-founder Thomas Mahler talks about how Will of the Wisps' narrative differs from its predecessor.

Ori and the Blind Forest excelled in many areas, and one of the ones that stood out the most was its resonant narrative and storytelling. Its sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, builds on those foundations, looking to offer a similarly moving experience, but it goes about that task in a very different way.

How different exactly? Moon Studios co-founder Thomas Mahler recently spoke with GameSpot about this in an interview about the upcoming Metroidvania platformer. When asked if Will of the Wisps’ story tackles themes similar to Blind Forest, Mahler – obviously reluctant to say too much so as to avoid spoilers – mentioned that the game tackles much bigger themes and ideas rather than just focusing on anything too specific.

“I would say the story is heading in a different direction,” said Mahler. “Obviously, I don’t want to give anything away at this point. I think this time it’s a much bigger theme that is more about life in general and not focusing on a specific thing. I don’t really want to say more than that.”

Our review of Ori and the Will of the Wisps just went live, and we were full of praise for nearly every aspect of the whole experience- the story, too, was something that we were quite positive on. You can read our full impressions through here.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is out for the Xbox One and PC on March 11, just hours from now. You can get more details on the game in our recent interview with the developers.
