Along with promising changes to make Overwatch 2 more rewarding, the development team at Blizzard Entertainment also discussed queue times, Ranked play, and Season 2 balance changes. Executive producer Jared Neuss acknowledged longer queue times for Tank and Damage players. While there’s no “silver bullet” to fix the problem, the team has “a LOT of ideas that we want to experiment with in the upcoming seasons.”
“Many of these ideas are focused on the support role and how we can make it more fun and more rewarding to play. We’re discussing targeted support hero reworks, game system updates, and even some role-wide changes to improve support quality of life.”
In the meantime, queue-time estimates in the UI are more accurate, and the team will experiment with Battle XP rewards for Support and All Roles queues. As for Ranked play, the matchmaking system is seeing some adjustments and changes “that should help the system more accurately determine a player’s skill tier and division. While this change is already in-game, you can expect the effects to be even more noticeable at the start of Season 2.”
As for complaints about the rate of feedback, unexpected rank changes, and so on, a deeper dive into the team’s plans is coming soon. Though Season 2 balance details are also coming “soon,” Sojourn is seemingly confirmed to be receiving changes. Currently, the team is looking at how the recent mid-season balance patch plays out.
