New details for Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch 2, a follow-up to the company’s insanely popular team-based multiplayer shooter, have been rather sparse. While the development team will offer some updates at BlizzConline 2021 in February, rumors have indicated that its release is ways off. A recent comment by the Korean voice actor for Genji, further fuels this.
The voice actor spoke in a recent interview with PlayersCut on YouTube (translation by Evenstar6132 on Reddit) about his work on Cyberpunk 2077 as the Korean voice for V. When asked about Overwatch 2, he noted that he was still working on the game but, “I haven’t heard anything about Overwatch 2.” He even jokingly asked, “What’s going on, Blizzard? I’m not fired, am I?” before revealing that he hadn’t recorded anything relating to the sequel.
Overwatch has been known for its extensive dialogues and localization, with a huge amount of dubbing for various languages. Localization can also happen when a project is several months off from being wrapped so it’s not a sign of big delays. But at the very least, it does put a dampener on hopes of Overwatch 2 potentially have a closed beta anytime soon.
More information on Overwatch 2 will be coming on February 19th to 20th so stay tuned. The sequel is currently in development for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch.
