Overwatch 2 Will Host Two 6v6 Playtests in Season 14

The first will be available about a week after launch and experiment with role limits, while the second arrives mid-season and adheres to 2-2-2.

After promising the same back in July, Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed two tests for the the 6v6 format in Overwatch 2 for Season 14. The first will be available about a week after the season starts.

However, this isn’t the traditional 2-2-2 Role Queue format. Instead, it will feature one hero per role minimum and a maximum of three. If you want a team with two Tanks, three Damage, and one Support, then go ahead. Players can switch roles during the match as well.

Described as “a middle ground to Role Queue and Open Queue,” it will also provide data on “how Overwatch 2 heroes, abilities, and updates work in a 6v6 environment before we expand to other types of tests.” Those craving a classic 6v6 experience with Role Queue can participate in the second test, available mid-season.

Both tests will be available as separate playlists in Unranked and feature exclusive balance changes, especially for Tank survivability and power (which ballooned to absurd proportions over the past few months. Blizzard will also examine whether 6v6 requires as many role passives.

Overwatch 2: Season 14 doesn’t have a start date, but it should arrive sometime in mid-December.
