Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch has attracted its fair share of users since the open beta – it’s become a massive success in its own right since officially launching – but as with many multiplayer shooters, it also attracted its fair share of cheaters. The developer confirmed before release that cheating wouldn’t be tolerated. One strike and you’d be banned permanently.
As per users on Reddit, such bans are already happening. One user posted an image of what typical ban email looks like while another screencapped forum replies of what appear to be users who have had multiple accounts banned for cheating once. Blizzard stated that it would not publicize when it was banning cheaters but that doesn’t mean it isn’t watching.
The approach is refreshing though especially when you consider some games like Tom Clancy’s The Division which had been decimated by hackers on PC (though Massive did follow up with a massive ban wave for 14 days). What are your thoughts on the Overwatch bans? Let us know in the comments.
