Overwatch Competitive Play Delayed to “Mid-to-Late” July

Originally slated for June, Blizzard is now aiming for July.

Overwatch, Blizzard Entertainment’s hit team-based multiplayer shooter, was to receive its Competitive Play mode later this month in what was to be the first major update. However, according to the developer on Twitter, Competitive Play has been delayed.

Responding to a question about competitive seasons in Overwatch, the developer said that, “We’ll be introducing our Competitive Play (hopefully) later in July. Stay tuned!” It later noted that it was aiming for mid-to-late July with the update.

Competitive Play was introduced in the closed beta for Overwatch but was subsequently removed from the open bet and full release. According to director Jeff Kaplan, this was in order to polish it and make changes based on fan feedback. With this latest announcement, it appears there’s even more work to be done.

Regardless, it’s not like Overwatch fans are bored just yet. What are your thoughts on the delay though? Let us know in the comments.
