Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch has had a great first year and the recent earnings report from Activision Blizzard showcases why. It stated that the hero shooter had become a billion dollar franchise alongside Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. This makes it the eighth such franchise under the company.
As per Polygon, the billion dollar figure covers revenue from game sales and microtransactions. The game also set a new monthly active user record during the first fiscal quarter though exact numbers weren’t provided. It also hit 30 million registered players and was the fastest game to do so in the company’s history.
Overwatch is in a pretty good spot with new content and events being added by the developer along with a constant stream of bug fixes and updates. What are your thoughts on the game’s success?
