Overwatch PTR Patch Nerfs Mercy’s New Ultimate

Following her new status in the meta, Blizzard nerfs Mercy hard.

Update: As it turns out, the “buff” to Genji was just a bug and Junkrat’s RIP-Tire moves at the same speed according to some players. Official notes on Mercy from Blizzard have been released though.

Original Story:

When Blizzard Entertainment decided to change Mercy’s Ultimate in Overwatch to avoid the five man Resurrect that could stall games, it wanted to give her a more direct role in combat. It seems that Resurrect, relegated to a default ability now, was still too good especially paired with Mercy’s new Valkyrie Ultimate.

According to Reddit, a new PTR patch has resulted in Mercy’s Resurrect no longer resetting when she activates Valkyrie. The cooldown would also be reduced to 10 seconds when Valkyrie was active – this has now been changed to 30 seconds. Furthermore, the momentum from Guardian Angel is gone.

Other changes include Junkrat’s RIP-Tire moving slower, Genji’s Dragonblade slashing faster at the start (along with the Ultimate still continuing even when he’s stunned but with Ult charge still being drained) and D.Va’s mech no longer just dropping when she activates Self-Destruct with the “hold to boost” option.

Blizzard has yet to release notes for this latest patch but you can expect them to address the changes to Mercy soon. Whether the changes make it to the live game or not is worth waiting for.
