One of the biggest games on the planet will soon be updated to officially support the Xbox One X, Microsoft’s super powerful Xbox One console that released last week to surprisingly strong sales. Blizzard has confirmed to Windows Central that they plan on supporting the Xbox One X with Overwatch, noting their excitement for Microsoft’s new console, calling it ‘incredible’, and pledging support (which they will share more details on in the future).
“[The] Overwatch team is excited with great possibilities Xbox One X opens,” their statement reads. “The team is currently exploring how the game experience can be enhanced on this platform to leverage the console’s incredible hardware, and is working on implementing 4K resolution in the game on Xbox One X. It is very important for the team to make sure the user interface looks natural on a truly big screen. We will share more details about our plans for 4K support on Xbox One X later.”
So at the very least, the quote seems to indicate that they fully intend on supporting 4K resolutions with Overwatch on the One X (whether this will be native 4K, or upscaled, is something that remains to be seen). I am sure there will be other enhancements, too- such as HDR support (hopefully!), as well as more sophisticated graphical techniques leveraged to make a sharp looking game look even better.
