Overwatch’s Summer Games Returns on August 8th, Includes Competitive Lucioball

Last year's will return but can be purchased at a discount.

Summer Games is back with a bang for Blizzard’s Overwatch. The developer offered a new video update with director Jeff Kaplan and the first ever event will be returning with some major changes on August 9th.

Lucioball will be making a return and this time, players can actually play it competitively. Placement matches, top 500 slots, sprays and more have been promised for those who participate. Regular Lucioball will also be available so don’t worry.

The mode has actually been changed in several ways – Lucio’s ability to “boop” other players has been removed and his Ultimate will now increase movement speed and offer reduced “boop” cooldown instead of pulling the ball to him. Along with Rio, a second map in Sydney, Australia will also be added.

Summer Games 2016 skins will also be returning but they’ll be priced the same as normal cosmetics. That means Legendary Skins for 1,000 Credits, Epic Skins for 250 Credits, Rare cosmetics for 75 Credits and Common cosmetics for 25 Credits. The new 2017 skins will still cost 3000 Credits for Legendary, 750 Credits for Epic and so on, though the new Loot Box fixes mean no dupes this time around.

The event will end on August 29th and has a few surprises for fans of certain heroes. Listen to Kaplan highlight them below.
