PC Surpasses PS4 As Most Profitable Platform For Ubisoft

PC sales saw a big surge within the last year.

It’s amazing how things change. It wasn’t that long ago that the PC as a platform was often seen as its own little thing separate from consoles, if not outright dead and abandoned by some big publishers. While Ubisoft wasn’t one of those publishers (they’ve generally been good about supporting near everything under the sun), their recent financial call still shows how much the landscape has has shifted as now the PC is the company’s most profitable platform.

According to sales figures released during their the call for investors, it was shown that their PC share surged 10% in their revenue share from last year, jumping from 24% of sales to 34%. This coupled with Sony’s console dropping 7% from 38% to 31% in the same time span means that PC has surpassed the PS4 as the most profitable platform for the company, and by a fairly decent amount when you put drops and uptakes side by side.

The two platforms are the runaway duo when compared to others, with the Xbox One being next with only 18%, then mobile with 7% and Nintendo Switch and “Others” at 5%. Seems this year was also the year when the company dropped off seeing any significant profit from the previous console generation. You can check out the chart below.
