Fanboys will have you believe that Sony and Microsoft are at war with their PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles; the reality is that it’s just business, and there doesn’t seem to be any personal animosity between the executives of these two companies (or including the executives of Nintendo, for that matter).
The latest evidence in a growing pile of it: Phil Spencer just congratulated Sony and PlayStation for having great first year with PlayStation 4.
He first said, “This 1st year has been incredible. Great launch for 2 consoles, exciting competition & great games. Thanks for all the support & feedback.” When he got a reply by a fan enquiring as to what the second console was, he clarified, “Those Sony peeps had a great first year.”
One year in, the Xbox One has shipped about 10 million units worldwide; sales of the PS4 stand at 13.5 million worldwide. Both consoles have sold substantially more than the 7.19 million units of global sales Nintendo’s Wii U has managed so far.
