PlayStation VR Global Sales At 4.2 Million Units

1.2 million units of those were sold in the last six months or so.

Sony’s PlayStation VR is the market leader in the premium VR category, we already know that. Today, Sony put number to that leadership, announcing in the wake of their heavily VR-focused State of Play broadcast that PlayStation VR has sold-through 4.2 million units worldwide—sold-through means sold to customers, not just shipped.

This is up from the 3 million units sold we know the PlayStation VR was at back in August. In the six and half months since, it has sold another 1.2 million, presumably off the back of killer-apps like Astro Bot: Rescue Mission.

On the whole, this is surprisingly good performance for the headset, and it indicates why Sony can justify pouring money into supporting it in the here and now—while VR support is undoubtedly more done with the long view in mind, as it stands right now, it is abundantly clear PSVR is doing well enough for Sony to have no issues with continuing to support it.
