On today’s episode of Inside Xbox, Microsoft announced that Project xCloud, their ambitious cloud streaming service that they announced last year, will be getting public betas later this year. That actually bodes well, if Microsoft feels confident enough to go public with the service, even if only in beta capacity, already—though the sense of Google’s impending entry into the market, and PS Now’s expansion may be prodding them on as well.
We also got a demo of xCloud on the show, which I’m not sure wasn’t fake, given the movements of the player don’t seem to match up with the screen footage at all—it seems like the footage was just pre-recorded in this case, which is a shame.
But hey, if the demo is later this year, as Microsoft has promised, then the proof will be in the pudding when we all get to see for ourselves just how good (or not) xCloud is.
