PS4 And Xbox One Comparison Is Silly, “More About The Games” – A Way Out Dev

Josef Fares ultimately asks what hardware is "if you don't have games".

By now, the whole industry is at least vaguely familiar with A Way Out creator Josef Fares after his outburst at The Game Awards. However, behind this there’s an intensely creative individual who’s passionate about video games. The vision for A Way Out, which focuses on co-op play between two prisoners trying to escape, reflects that.

GamingBolt had a chance to speak to Fares about the new hardware releases for this generation like the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One X. While he seemed excited about them, the truth is he’s more concerned about the games they have because to Fares, “hardware is just a box.”

“Very exciting, but again, hardware for me is- yeah, sure, but I’m more about the games. That’s what sells me, hardware is just a box. What good is it? That’s also…You know what’s so silly when you compare PS4 and Xbox? They pretty much have the same components inside!”

He also noted the comparison to PCs, stating that a comparison between the PS4 and PC is impractical. “Like, comparing a PC to a PS4, it’s so weird, because a PC could be like a million different things, depending on what you put inside it. How do you even compare those two? It’s not even fair. So who cares about hardware? What is hardware, if you don’t have games? What are you going to do with the hardware without the games, look at it?”

Though hardcore PC enthusiasts might raise a few points on how sick their systems are to look at, Fares has a point. The Nintendo Switch, despite being the least powerful of this generation, contains a number of quality releases like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Regardless, we’ll see if Fares’ focus on video game quality comes through in A Way Out once it releases on March 23rd 2018 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
