PS4 “Not a Successor” to PS3 – Release in Other Regions Planned for Later?

The PS4 will offer a completely new experience, but is just another addition to the family.

NowGamer had a word with Sony’s Middle East general manager about the upcoming PlayStation 4 console. Considering the console’s shock reveal that came on February 20th, since the PlayStation 3 is still very much in circulation, there were concerns that Sony had begun phasing out its current generation console too soon by announcing and releasing the PS4 in the same year.

However, according to the company’s Middle East GM, “PS4, an addition to the PS family, like PSP and PS Vita, will offer a completely new gaming experience.” He also stated the console is not the “successor” to the PS3.

Interestingly, Fisser also stated that, “PS4 will be released in at least one region across the world during the Western holiday season this year.” While it’s been known that the console will be out in the US, he didn’t say which other regions would see the PS4 come out this year.

Does this mean it’ll come out in Europe later than the announced Holiday 2013 launch? It remains to be seen, since this has never happened with a PlayStation console before.
