PS4 Uncertain for 2013 Launch in India, “Pricing Dependent on Foreign Exchange Rate”

For that matter, PS3 and PS Vita price drops may not apply to India either.

Despite Sony announcing that its PlayStation 4 console would be launching on November 29th in Europe (November 15th in North America), besides touting release in 32 countries worldwide at launch, it seems that India may be in danger of missing the console this year.

Speaking to MCV India, Sony Computer Entertainment country manager for India Atindriya Bose stated that, “That’s the part that is being evaluated. So [I] cannot confirm 2013 immediately as that is almost within a month of the EU launch date. With country logistics and certain regulatory requirements, it looks a pretty tight call.”

Also, it appears that the dreaded foreign exchange rate, with the Indian Rupee ever dropping in value compared to the United States Dollar, will be influencing pricing on launch. Unfortunately, that extends to the PS3 and PS Vita as well.

“Pricing for all (PS4, PS3 and PS Vita ) now very strongly depends on the foreign exchange rate scenario of India, which puts considerable pressure on the pricing.

“On the PS4, we have some time to wait for a more stable (and hopefully better) scenario and declare price much closer to launch date. For PS3 and PS Vita, [we] may need to consider the immediate impact of foreign exchange rates before we can decide the India price points.”

So even if the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita have received price drops around the world, don’t expect it to necessarily apply to India just yet.
