PS4/Xbox One Sales Show Consoles Are Not Dead, Allows Close To The Metal Coding – Shuhei Yoshida

Yoshida outlines the advantages of consoles.

Every now and then there are claims that consoles are dead. Regardless of such claims, the console market has actually expanded each generation. From the days of PlayStation 2 to Gen 7th, the console base has nothing but increased. Sony worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida addressed these claims in a conversation at GameLab.

“We were told 2 years ago that consoles are dead and looking at the sales of PS4 and Xbox One, it does not seems like it. What we try to achieve with consoles is that it’s a homo-genius platform, so from the developers stand point, it’s the same experience or same hardware,” he said.

“They can spend time into really fine tuning it or we can go even deeper into the metal to get more performance out of the hardware and the consumers don’t need to worry about compatibility.”
