No one is going to be at E3 this year, with the show having been cancelled for 2020, but even before it was cancelled, Sony had said that they would be skipping it once more, just as they had in 2019. Many wondered what their plans were for the reveal of the PS5, something that surely would have benefited from the flash and pizazz that E3 events usually bring with them- worry not, though. It seems that flash and pizazz is very much part of their plans.
Sony recently announced – at long lest – an hour-long games showcase for the PS5 scheduled for June 4, and according to Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan from couple of interviews (spotted by Push Square), that show is going to replicate the adrenaline and excitement that one usually expects to see in an E3 reveal.
“Normally you would be in Los Angeles in some auditorium with 2,000 other people,” Ryan said while speaking with the BBC. “You’d be able to cut the adrenaline and the testosterone with a knife. We’ve got to find a way to do that and give the community little bit of a jolt. When you watch the show next week, I think you’ll see that we’ve been able to do that.”
He echoed those statements in conversation with GamesIndustry, saying that Sony have set the challenge for themselves to get people just as excited with the upcoming showcase as they would have been in a packed E3 auditorium, or watching a stream of one.
“That’s the challenge I’ve set the teams: try to get that community, the 100 million people – and all of the people who don’t have a PlayStation we’d like to talk to – just as excited as if they were in the E3 auditorium, or if they were watching the stream,” he said.
Recent reports have also fallen very much in line with this, stating that Sony have delayed a PS5 reveal event on multiple occasions in a bid to ensure that whenever it does happen, it’s “very, very professional.” Read more on that through here.
What games Sony will be bringing with them on June 4 is anyone’s best guess right now, but recent activity by the developer suggests that Bluepoint Games’ long-teased remake project will finally be unveiled.
