Later today (in just a couple of hours from now, actually), Sony will finally be dispelling all the secrecy around the PS5 when the console’s lead architect Mark Cerny takes deep dive into the system’s architecture in a livestream. Given that this was originally supposed to be GDC talk, you should expect a pretty dry presentation- but it will be providing a lot of info after a long spell of nothing but radio silence from Sony about next-gen.
Ahead of the reveal though, some interesting tidbits have emerged. Billy Khan, lead engine programmer at id Software, spoke about the upcoming PS5 reveal, succinctly saying, about the system “It’s awesome.” This was followed by Kotaku’s Jason Schreier replying to Khan’s tweet, saying that though there are some specifics he doesn’t know, the word he’s heard from “several technical-minded folks” is quite positive, with one in particular telling him that it’s “the most exciting hardware in 20 years.”
Given how impressive the Xbox Series X is already looking based on all the information Microsoft have revealed for it so far, that’s saying something- and as such, all the more exciting. We’ll find out soon enough though, so at least we don’t have to wait too long.
Meanwhile, recently Sony also said that contrary to several current reports, the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t yet delayed their launch plans for the PS5 later this year. Read more on that through here.
