PS5 Reportedly Sold 3x as Much as Xbox Series X/S in 2023

According to analyst firm Ampere's estimates, Sony's console sold 22.5 million units this year, while Xbox Series X/S sold 7.6 million.

A combination of a densely packed release schedule and the easing up of prior supply constraints should have meant increased sales for all consoles on the market in 2023, but it seems some have been luckier than others this year. That’s as per estimates provided by analyst firm Ampere, shared in a recent report published by Financial Times.

As per the estimates, the PlayStation 5 saw a significant year-on-year growth in sales of 65%, selling 22.5 million units worldwide over the course of 2023. In contrast, Xbox Series X/S sales fell about 15%, with Microsoft managing to sell just 7.6 million units, roughly a third of what Sony’s console sold.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch – now in the final legs of its lifecycle and rumoured to be getting a successor in the second half of 2024 – sold 16.4 million units, an 18% decline, but still more than twice as much as Microsoft’s current-gen hardware.

Recently, Sony announced that PS5 has sold over 50 million units worldwide, while the Nintendo Switch stands at 132.46 million units as of September 30. Meanwhile, Xbox Series X/S’ sales were reported to be at 21 million units in June.
