Double Fine Productions’ Psychonauts 2 has received a rather significant update, something which studio president Tim Schafer and project lead Zac McClendon are referring to as “first playable”. The video showcases a playable level that Double Fine had detailed the art creation process for previously.
Referred to as the Quarry level, the footage also showcases many of the platforming elements that players can expect to see. The video has a bunch of other things to see including Peter McConnell working on the score.
Psychonauts 2 was first revealed at The Game Awards 2015 and started its crowd-funding campaign on Fig on the same day. The eagerly anticipated sequel garnered $3.8 million in funding and is currently scheduled to launch in 2018 for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Picking up after the VR title Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, players will be travelling to the minds of NPCs and platforming around. Powers like telekinesis, pyrokinesis and whatnot will also make a return.
