Double Fine Productions’ Psychonauts 2 has finally met its crowd-funding target of $3.3 million with five days to spare. A new video featuring Tim Schafer and the studio’s employees was released, thanking fans for their support.
The actual budget for Psychonauts 2 is estimated to be $10 million with Double Fine investing its own significant amount of funding capital along with taking help from an “external investor”. The game will eventually release in 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac OS X and Linux so we’ve got a ways to go before receiving any new details.
Double Fine has been seeing some decent success with Kickstarter – it funded Broken Age and Massive Chalice through the same, despite the controversy of the former requiring more money (which was supplied by the developer itself) and eventually needing to be split into two games. What trials will Psychonauts 2 face? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more updates.
