Rainbow Six: Siege was the big surprise at Ubisoft’s E3 presser this year, in the tradition of Tom Clancy’s The Division and Watch Dogs. Representing a resurrected Rainbow Six: Patriots, and in general just looking awesome (we called it the ‘most next gen looking shooter yet’), we were suitably impressed by the multiplayer demonstration that Ubisoft put on for us.
Except that’s not it. Of course it isn’t. The game will have more to it, much more. Ubisoft has confirmed that in addition to the multiplayer mode that they showed us at E3 (Hostage Rescue), there would be more.
“Yeah, what we’re showing at E3 is called the Hostage Rescue game mode. We are working on different game modes right now, but that’s the only mode we’re showing for now.”
They also talked about the added tension that one life, no respawns, and realistic physics and destruction bring to the game.
“I think having bullet penetration is very realistic, in real life they are very aware of that. You have this constant feeling of paranoia because you’re never 100% safe even behind walls. It’s so tense, that’s the whole point. We want the players to feel attached to what they’re doing and having one life and a team of five people really adds a lot of tension. You know, we’ve been playing the game for a while now and that feeling of paranoia and tension is still there, so that’s the whole point of making this game.”
Rainbow Six: Siege is due out, presumably next year, for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
