More and more we’ve been seeing examples of how games will leverage the SSDs of the upcoming next generation consoles to virtually eliminate load times altogether. The latest example we see is the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake, which shows impressive loading speed on the Xbox Series X.
As you can see below in a clip uploaded to Twitter by @astaranx, Resident Evil 2 on the Xbox Series X cold boots from the console’s home screen to within the campaign, all in the matter of just 20 seconds. This includes multiple splash screens when the game boots up, the game’s own main menu, and then a short load screen when the campaign is resumed.
Considering only the time it takes to go from the game’s main menu to actual gameplay, the load time becomes even more impressive, taking roughly 3 seconds to get the player into the action. Take a look below.
We’ve previously seen similarly impressive examples of quick load times on next-gen consoles, from Gears 5 and DOOM Eternal on the Xbox Series X to Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on the PS5.
