Resident Evil Village Features a “Lot of Side Characters” – Rumor

The villagers in the next-gen sequel play a "much bigger role" than previous games' NPCs.

Among the many high-profile titles revealed at Sony’s PS5 games showcase was Capcom’s Resident Evil Village. The sequel has a much bigger focus on exploration, with next-gen consoles suited to handling the updated visual fidelity. Gameplay details have been revealed here and there but much of it is shrouded in mystery right now.

That being said, one thing that Capcom has continually emphasized is the importance of the titular “Village”. All kinds of entities are roaming in this mysterious location, including the dreaded werewolves, but will there be other NPCs to speak with? AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem, who’s been spot-on with leaks for the title, was asked if such characters were present and if they functioned like The Evil Within 2’s NPCs.

He responded that it’s “Not like that. But there is a lot of side characters in Resident Evil 8 and the Villagers play a much bigger role than the people of a place usually do in a Resident Evil game. The people of the Village are important to Resident Evil 8, and a number of them are just ‘normal’ people.”

Resident Evil 7: biohazard also had some normal characters, like Zoe and Lucas Baker (though the latter had a villainous role). It should be interesting to see how Resident Evil Village expands on this. Perhaps the player can influence the lives of different villagers with their actions.

Resident Evil Village is currently slated to release in 2021 for Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
