Retailers Call for a Kinect Price Cut

Microsoft’s motion sensor, Kinect, was rumoured to be priced at $149, and the Microsoft Store confirms this. Retailers though, it seems, are not happy with this price. They say Kinect should be priced at below $100 if it is to appeal to the masses, compete with the Move, and sell as much as Microsoft expects it to.

Retailers have been forced to take all Kinect units for a price of over $100 for now.

“Sub-$100 and Kinect will benefit immensely,” Morrison’s games buyer Nick Sultanti told Develop.

“People are going to compare price points between Move and Kinect and it would be fairly detrimental if there is a major price discrepancy in favour of Move.”

ShopTo boss Igor Cipolletta added: “Predictions of Kinect price being over $79.99 will do little to engender early adopters and thus affect unit sales in the short to medium term.”

So, will you buy the Kinect if it’s over $100? Tell us what you think in your comments!
