Returnal Developer Clarifies How Adaptive Triggers Are Used For Firing Modes

It's all in how you use L2.

Sony had one of the strongest first party lineups for the launch of their PS5 last month that I can recall, but they aren’t slowing down. There’s a lot set to come for 2021, with one of the early titles being Returnal. We now know that it’ll come in March, and looks to be quite the unique title. Like many of Sony’s first party titles, it also hopes to take advantage of the DualSense controller and today we have some details on how the Adaptive Triggers work.

We knew from the game’s official description that you could switch firing modes for your weapon with the adaptive triggers. Via Twitter, it was detailed exactly how that would work. Squeezing L2 halfway would aim down the sights, while going all the way would activate the alt-fire. The developer clarified later that both of those were for aiming down the sights and shoot itself was always R2. If you don’t particularly like the sound of that, as it seems like it could be a tad confusing, they say that you can change the setting if it’s not to your liking.

Returnal is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 March 19th, 2021.
