Pysonix has announced that Rocket League will be going free-to-play on September 23rd for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. Due to its acquisition by Epic Games, the PC version will only be available for new players on the Epic Games Store. Steam players who still own the game can continue to play as per usual.
Going free-to-play means a number of sweeping changes and new additions. Cross-platform progression will go live starting today. A new bot difficulty and Merc hitbox is also being added while changes are being made to Achievements. Trade Ups will now have a larger item pool and the Solo Standard playlist is going away.
Season 1 will also be starting and kicking off the game’s seasonal content model. There will also be Competitive Tournaments to enjoy and game-wide challenges to complete for different rewards. Adding the game to one’s library between September 23rd and October 23rd will also provide a $10 Epic Games Store coupon that can be spent on games for $14.99 and upwards. Stay tuned for more details when the free-to-play version launches next week.
