Rocket League Has Made $50 Million

Well deserved success.

Psyonix’s breakout car combat soccer game, Rocket League, has generated $50 million in revenue worldwide since its launch earlier this year- considering that the game had a budget of $2 million, and that it was given away as a PlayStation Plus freebie to PlayStation 4 owners, that is a hell of a return on the investment.

It’s a game that deserves every bit of that success, too- outside of maybe Splatoon, I dan’t think of any other multiplayer game this year that is as ridiculously compelling, addictive, or fun as Rocket League is. The continued support the game gets, thanks to free cosmetic DLC, also surely helps keep the game’s community alive, as does the great word of mouth that it has managed to generate.

Rocket League is available on the PlayStation 4 and PC right now, but in February, it will also be launching on the Xbox One. Unlike the PS4 and PC versions, which feature cross platform play with each other, Xbox One players will only be able to play with other players on that platform.

Thanks, WSJ.
