Rust Early Access Alpha Garners More Than 1 Million Players

The survival sandbox title scores big with Early Access users.

Though it went up against DayZ, another open world survival sandbox title, Facepunch Studios’ Rust has found a good measure of success since entering into the Steam Early Access program. It’s alpha now has more than 1 million players, which studio founder Garry Newman tweeted about recently. Considering the news that Rust was outpacing Garry’s Mod – Newman’s first big success built on the Source Engine – very quickly, it comes as nothing but good news.

Rust is currently in alpha and involves players having to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. Even items like pants are considered luxuries and more than a few players are doing their best to survive by killing others. It retails for $20 on Steam and it’s important to note that Facepunch recently removed zombies from the title.
