Sea of Thieves was one of several Microsoft first party games that received dedicated Xbox Series X/S optimizations when Microsoft’s new consoles launched late last year. Sea of Thieves in particular really benefited from its enhancements, running at 4K and 60 FPS on the Xbox Series X (and 1080p and 60 FPS on the Xbox Series S). Now, it’s received another performance boost.
Sea of Thieves’ major Season One update recently one live, and on top adding several crucial features and updates, it also added new performance mode. The performance mode allows the game to run at 120 FPS at 1080p. The update notes warn that some TV screens cannot support 120Hz and HDR simultaneously, so some of you might have to turn off HDR to enjoy the improved frame rate.
Sea of Thieves is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. The Season One update, which adds a new battle pass-style progression system called Plunder Pass (with 100 tiers of rewards for players to unlock) is live now.
