Sea of Thieves Crosses 10 Million Players Since Launch

That's a lot of pirates.

Sea of Thieves did not enjoy the best launch when it came out in 2018, with a lack of content letting down the game’s strong foundations, but there’s no question that Rare have worked overtime since then to turn things around for their sea-faring adventure. Constant and meaty updates have given the game a massive facelift overtime, and indeed, Rare and Microsoft have been reaping the fruits and that labour as well.

It was recently announced that Sea of Thieves has surpassed a total of 10 million players since launch, which “reinforces” its status as Microsoft’s most successful new IP this generation. Remember, this does not mean that it’s sold 10 million copies – Sea of Thieves is available on Game Pass on both Xbox One and PC – but a total of 10 million players since launch in less than two years is still very impressive, especially for a new IP that did not enjoy the best of starts.

To celebrate this milestone, Rare will also be giving away two limited-edition gifts – a custom sail and a special new emote – to all players for free. All you have to do to claim them is log into the game between January 15 and 22.

Sea of Thieves is currently available on Xbox One and PC.
